Evan Samuel Dobelle, president of Westfield State College in Westfield, Massachusetts, said in a recent interview that the American International University (AIU) could help raise higher education standards in Vietnam.
Professor Michael Lestz from the College of Trinity in Connecticut added that the team of educators wanted AIU to be a base that many US universities could use to offer services in Vietnam.
The delegation wanted AIU to provide training for both young students and the more mature workforce by offering the best quality education at a reasonable cost, said Dobelle, former president of the New England Board of Higher Education.
Dobelle also said the US experts wanted to open short-term courses immediately.
The delegation has meetings with the Ministry of Education and Training this week to learn about Vietnamese education and promote the project.
Lestz said he believed the project would succeed so long as it had the right vision and direction.
He added that local educational leaders had already committed to support the initiative.
Vietnam has seen the establishment of several universities with international connections such as the Vietnam-Germany University, opened in September, and the British University, which received its operation license the same month.
