Dung, 18, beat 29 other beauties across the country to wear the crown studded with gold, silver and gems.
The crown will be kept at the Vietnam Bank for Investment and Development (BIDV) to be bestowed on future winners.
The winner also received VND150 million (US$9,041) in cash and a trip overseas.
Runner-up Phan Hoang Minh Thu and third-placed Nguyen Thuy Van received VND80 million ($4,822) and VND60 million ($3,616) respectively.
The grand finale of the 11th beauty contest, organized by the Tien Phong Newspaper in central Quang Nam Province, was broadcast live from a large outdoor stage built in the town.
Dung will participate in the Miss World pageant to be held in South Africa this year.
But first, she will serve as the country’s ambassador for the “Social security for the poor” program initiated by BIDV.
The program will use VND35 billion ($2.1 million) donated by the bank’s customers, businesses and employees to repair old houses of poor people in 27 cities and provinces in the central region, Central Highlands and the Mekong Delta area, and buy presents for people who have contributed to the nation’s war efforts in various ways.
Even before the announcement of the final results, the charity work related to the beauty contest had drawn widespread interest following a controversy that erupted last month.
