Japanese paintings express love for Vietnam
“What is the Pig Thinking?” a Ninh Binh Province scene painted by Takeo Akiko, on display at the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum.
Japanese artist and Ho Chi Minh City resident Takeo Akiko’s “Vietnam – My Beloved Land” – a collection of 29 watercolors – was inspired by her travels throughout the country.

On display at the HCMC Fine Arts Museum’s Blue Space Contemporary Arts Center, the collection of paintings include images of Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh and Lam Dong provinces as well as Can Tho and HCMC.

Akiko first came to Vietnam in 1996 and she married a Vietnamese engineer in 1998.

She settled in HCMC, where she still lives, the following year.

The exhibit will move to the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum in Hanoi for a four-day run September 12 before showing in Akiko’s hometown of Yokohama in November.

Akiko’s first collection of 30 watercolor paintings, “Vietnam Landscape,” showed in HCMC in 2006 and portrayed the central province of

Quang Nam and the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
