Head surgeon Hoang Tuan Viet said the teenager had been brought to hospital at 5 p.m. on Saturday with a crushed spleen, a partially crushed liver, a broken leg and internal bleeding.
Doctors found three liters of blood – two-thirds of the total amount in the human body – in her stomach cavity, Viet said on Tuesday.
During the two-hour surgery, the patient received a transfusion of two liters of blood, all the hospital had available at the time.
By Tuesday morning, the girl was awake and talking.
Viet said the patient still required further surgery to pin her broken leg when she has recovered a little more from the first operation.
The patient said she was run over by a car on Nguyen Trai Street in District 1 after she was knocked off her motorbike by another speeding motorbike driver.
