The council, which includes Vietnamese scientists, academics and politicians, will select candidates studying in fields in which Vietnam needs talent, including economics, information technology and telecommunications, law, public policy and environmental management.
To win the scholarships worth US$30,000-50,000 each per year, candidates must be Vietnamese citizens aged under 35, with a master’s degree, a score of at least 100 on the TOEFL IBT or 6.5 on the EILTS English-language test. Candidates must also prove their leadership skills and determination to complete a doctoral program and must have an acceptance from a prestigious university.
Applications close on June 30, 2009, and successful candidates will be able to begin their doctoral program abroad in August 2009.
VTF was set up by Thanh Nien newspaper in 2006 to provide opportunities for young people.
