Nguyen Thanh Huyen, 22, who is of Vietnamese origin, was taken into custody Sunday night while in transit at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat airport on a flight from Hanoi to Australia.
According to a local newswire, she had hidden two small packages of “white powder,” later identified as heroin, in her underwear.
Airport customs officials could not be reached for comment Monday.
Vietnam has some of the world’s toughest drug laws.
Anyone found in possession or who has trafficked more than 600 grams of heroin faces the death penalty.
