Hoang Le Thuy, 42, received the life imprisonment and her husband Nguyen Van Huy, 41, was jailed for 20 years.
The couple – residents of Victoria, Australia – were arrested at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport in July 2006 after security officials discovered 500 grams of heroin in ointment jars inside their suitcases.
The pair was traveling with their three young daughters.
Last Sunday, an Australian woman of Vietnamese origin, 22-year-old Nguyen Thanh Huyen, was also arrested at HCMC after customs officials found her hiding more than 73 grams (2.6 ounces) of heroin in her underwear.
Vietnam has some of the world’s toughest drug laws.
Trafficking more than 600 grams of heroin in Vietnam is punishable by death.
