US Presidential certificate granted to former HCMC student
A Vietnamese student from a high school in Los Angeles, California has received the US President’s certificate in June for her outstanding academic records for the 2007-2008 school year.

Diep Tu Chau, 9, from Grover Cleveland High School, was recognized as the school’s valedictorian for her academic achievements.

Chau, who moved to the US two years ago, has received numerous honors, including a certificate of the President’s Education Awards Program.

Chau’s father, Diep Quoc Ke, said his daughter was offered scholarships to attend prestigious universities such as Columbia and Princeton in the states.

However, she decided to stay close to home to study medicine at the University of California Irvine, based on her dream of treating diseases that are currently incurable.

Chau used to be a student of Nguyen Thuong Hien High School in Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Binh District from 2004-2006.

According to her father, Chau’s younger brother, Diep Quoc Thang, also graduated with good grades from Winnetka Elementary Avenue, an elementary school in Los Angeles, and spoke at his school’s graduation ceremony.

He was a former pupil of Trung Nhut Elementary School in HCMC’s Phu Nhuan District.
