Vietnam aims to come out of its underdeveloped status and become a modern industrial country by 2020, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has said.
Speaking at a banquet that the Prime Minister and his wife hosted on Monday to greet the diplomatic corps on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day on September 2, he thanked the people and governments of countries worldwide for their encouragement and support over the years.
He also thanked diplomats and representatives of international organizations.
The Prime Minister informed the guests about ongoing efforts to implement its 2006-2010 socio-economic development plan.
He said while the achievements recorded by the country have been great, the country faces difficulties in economic development as a result of the downturn in the world economy, as well as its own shortcomings.
The Vietnamese government is going ahead with the implementation of measures to contain inflation, maintain stability and development and ensure social welfare, the PM said.
On behalf of the guests, Argentinean Ambassador Tomas Ferrari, Head of Diplomatic Corps in Hanoi, praised the Vietnamese government and people’s efforts in building the country, especially its integration into the world economy.
The international community pledges to continue the support for Vietnam’s renewal, he said.
