Japan helps Vietnam implement competition policy
Japan will help Vietnam accelerate the enforcement of the Competition Law and the implementation of competition policy, according to an agreement reached in Hanoi Wednesday.

The Competition Law, which took effect in July 2005, is aimed at protecting the freedom of competition in business and maintaining and creating a fair playing field for enterprises.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)’s Resident Representative Hiroaki Nakagawa and the Vietnam Competition Administration Department (VCAD)’s Director General Bach Van Mung signed a record of discussion of the cooperative project “Capacity Building for Enforcement of Competition Law and Implementation of Competition

Policy in Vietnam,” to be carried out between September 2008 and June 2010.

An expert from the Japan Fair Trade Commission will be sent to Vietnam to work with VCAD under the project.

Training courses will be held for VCAD’s investigators to increase their capacity and activities will be conducted to improve knowledge on competition law and policy for businesses, consumers and academics.
