Da Lat preschooler dies in elevator
The elevator where two-year-old Nguyen Anh Dat died Thursday.
A two-year-old boy in the resort town of Da Lat died Thursday after getting stuck in his preschool’s elevator.

According to Thien Y Private Preschool, the toddler Nguyen Anh Dat crawled into a service elevator after a female teacher, Ngo Thi Dung, took him back to his classroom on the ground floor about 11.30 a.m.

The school reported Dat operated the small lift then tried to crawl out on the first floor, but was trapped by the closing doors.

A spokesman from the local emergency center, Vu Trong Quang, said it took nearly 30 minutes for emergency workers, who were called to the scene, to saw through the lift’s doors to remove the boy’s body.

The child was sent to Lam Dong General Hospital but he could not be revived.

Tran Quang Huu, head of Da Lat Town’s Education Department, said the department and relevant agencies were investigating the toddler’s death.

He said Thien Y Private Preschool would still be able to operate for the start of the new school year today.

Thien Y Private Preschool was set up in October last year and cares for 70 children aged from two to five.
