After being tipped off by locals, authorities conducted a raid and discovered more than 1.14 cubic meters of wood of unknown origin inside the garage of the VietinBank office in Tam Ky Town.
Initial investigations revealed that Dinh Thi Hue, the bank director and also a member of the provincial People’s Council, is the owner of the logs.
Quang Nam forest wardens are keeping the logs in custody after Hue failed to show any documents to prove that the logs are legal.
Hue claimed a family relative had provided the wood for constructing her house.
Quang Nam police and forest authorities have seized around 5,000 cubic meters of illegal timber since the beginning of the year.
