The Supreme People’s Court said Tuesday Nguyen Le Lan, chief justice of Binh Phuoc Province People’s Court, would be transferred to a desk job at the provincial government office.
Lan’s husband, Tran Van Phung, deputy head of the provincial Organization Department, was also dismissed from his post as a member of the provincial Communist Party Unit in late November.
On March 27, Phung had gone to a karaoke parlor in Tien Hung Commune to discuss a land deal with a friend.
Two of the bar’s employees were “entertaining” the men when Lan – wearing a mask – and a friend stormed in.
Lan threw a fruit dish at her husband and smashed a beer bottle over the head of karaoke girl Nguyen Hong Bien.
The bleeding Bien was rushed to the hospital where doctors later determined she permanently lost partial brain function.
After the attack, karaoke bar owner Ho Ngoc Anh tried to unmask the woman who had led the assault.
In the ensuing melee, Phung punched Anh in the face and abdomen.
Though the police did not press charges against the couple at the time, local authorities said Phung had violated public service codes by using his state-owned car for private matters and drinking during work hours.
