Fire-shaded rivulets
A visitor tiptoes along a makeshift wooden bridge crossing one of the many rivulets of Dua Lua Island
Dua Lua Island is an ideal location for tourists and local students who want to sample the rustic ambiance of Vietnam’s countryside conveniently located just 30 kilometers from the heart of Ho Chi Minh City.

This recently established tourist site, whose namesake means the island of red coconuts, has been in operation since March 2006.

With an area of about five hectares, the island by a branch of Saigon River located in Dong Nai Province is accessible by using the Cat Lai ferry.

The location offers an escape from the urban hubbub and hot summer days, boasting a tranquil landscape that helps visitors temporarily forget the daily stress of modern life.

Dua Lua Island features expansive grass, a lotus pond and a variety of flora.

Guests can enjoy activities such as bathing in the river, fishing, boating and strolling.

Idle visitors may choose to relax in a hammock in a quiet bamboo hut, breathe in deeply the fresh air from the river and read an old book from a small hidden library placed among the shaded trees.

Adventurous tourists can travel in a row-boat to explore deeper into the island and discover the life of the people on both sides of the streams.

At meal time, the restaurants on site serve up several exquisite local dishes.

The most famous gastronomic specialty is Bo nau dot trai dua (Beef fired in a coconut).

This dish offers beef seasoned with more than 10 kinds of spices and cooked in an island-grown red coconut steeped in its milk.

The succulent meal enjoyed amidst the beautiful natural mazes of rivers and canals helps to make visitors’ stays memorable.

Services on the island such as leasing life-jackets, boats and fishing rods cost from VND5,000-30,000 (US$0.3-1.9).

To reach Dua Lua Island, visitors must take a 10-minute boat trip priced at VND15,000 ($0.94) per person.
