HCMC hosts Korea Travel Mart
The South Korean Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) organized a roadshow Friday in HCMC to promote the relationship between Vietnam and South Korea through tourism exchange.

The roadshow kicks off with a media press conference, to be followed by an event titled “Travel Mart,” KTO said.

More than 100 Vietnamese and Korean travel agents will meet for a business session at the Travel Mart where buyers and sellers have the opportunity to share the latest tourism products and sign business contracts.

The event will close with a “Korea Tourism Night and Gala Dinner” with the participation of more than 300 guests, including representatives from the HCMC People’s Committee, KTO, Consulate General of RoK, travel agencies, media and the Korean community, the organizers said.

According to the General Statistics Office, bilateral trade between Vietnam and the RoK jumped to US$4.85 billion in 2006 from $490 million in 1992, while the latter’s total investment in Vietnam reached over $11 billion as of October 2007.

More than 500,000 Koreans are currently living and working in Vietnam and about 430,000 Korean tourists visited the country in 2006 alone.

Bilateral trade between the two countries is expected to reach $10 billion in the next five to seven years, the Ministry of Planning and Investment said.
