Out to the country
A local house surrounded by flowers in Thuan An District, Binh Duong Province
For a break from the city, tourists are discovering the joys of spending a summer day outside in the orchards of Binh Duong Province’s Thuan An District, only 20 km from Ho Chi Minh City.

A stroll through the villages and orchards surrounding Lai Thieu Town and communes in Thuan An District could only be described as quiet and peaceful.

Areas away from the main roads are virtually untouched and it’s easy to spend a whole day wandering around various paths from village to village.

The orchards span some 1,200 hectares in An Son, An Thanh, Binh Nham and Hung Dinh communes along Road 745 from the Binh Nham Bridge near the Cau Ngan area (about 1.5 km from Lai Thieu Town) to An Thanh Commune.

There are countless secluded pathways in the area.

Fruit, wild flowers and old houses dot the natural lanes and corridors.

If you have a bike, riding though the area is very relaxing and serene.

Walk your day away in Thuan An’s labyrinthine orchards and don’t forget to pick up some local fruit on your way home – it’s sure to be juicier, sweeter and fresher than anything you’ll find at a Ho Chi Minh City market.

Getting there

Your own vehicle:

From Ho Chi Minh City, take Highway No 13 for about 15 km and turn left when you see the sign for Lai Thieu Town.

This is Road 745, which you take until you hit the Cau Ngang area, about 2 km after Lai Thieu.

The Cau Ngang bus stop has ample parking.

Near the bus stop you can cross a small bridge to An Son or An Thanh communes, or walk back on Road 745 a hundred meters and turn left to get to Binh Nham commune.

By bus:

The Phuong Trinh local bus departs every hour from Ben Xe Mien Dong (eastern bus station in Binh Thanh District) from 5 a.m.

Get off the bus at Cau Ngang, and follow the directions above.

The last bus back to Ho Chi Minh City leaves Cau Ngang at 5:15 p.m.
