The annual event, organized since 2005 by the Ho Chi Minh City administration and the HCMC Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism, will be held at 200 business locations from September 1 to 30, offering some US$733,600 in total savings.
The participants will offer different sales promotions ranging from free gifts and lottery draws to 5-50 percent off regular prices.
Co.opMart supermarkets will offer sales promotion programs worth nearly VND25 billion ($152,800) in total – the highest value among participating companies.
The chain will also operate a hotline with up-to-date information on all of the company’s sales and activities for the month.
The hotline can be reached by dialing 1081, organizers said.
“Although this year’s event cannot be compared to those of previous years as fewer businesses are participating, it is a good sign that companies are trying to set aside part of their budgets to support consumers,” said vice director of the HCMC Trade Department Tran Vinh Nhung.
Additionally, the HCMC-based Business Studies and Assistance Center (BSA) is cooperating with the Vietnam High Quality Goods Club – a club of Vietnamese businesses chosen as top brand names by consumers – to launch a sales promotion program from September to January, 2009.
Foreign distributors have their own sales promotion initiatives in store.
French-owned supermarket Big C Vietnam, for example, will launch a two-week promotion program on October 1.
