Many people took advantage of the weekend to have an extended holiday.
Routes to Ben Tre and Tien Giang provinces were more crowded than others.
Some transport operators at the station Sunday hiked fares by 30-40 percent. Vacationers traveling to the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho had to pay VND110,000 ($6.7) instead of the regular price of VND77,000 ($4.7).

In Hanoi, Nguyen Huy Quang, director of the Hanoi Bus Station Management Company, said it had requested three bus stations – Giap Bat, My Dinh, and Gia Lam – to mobilize more buses to meet the increased demand for the holiday.
Each bus station should make use of an additional 30-50 buses on average, Quang said.
He said the number of passengers is expected to increase mainly for short routes from Hanoi to Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nam Dinh, and Ninh Binh.
Giap Bat Bus Station management expects its number of passengers to hike by 15-20 percent during the holiday.
