Fishing at Vinh Hy Bay
Tourists can catch their own fish at Vinh Hy Bay
Getting out and about sound better than lazing around on the beach? Try Vinh Hy Bay.

Surrounded by the mountains and the sea, Vinh Hy Bay is one of central Vietnam’s most scenic spots.

The bay, 380 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, offers great fishing on canoe or glass-bottom boat tours. A group of more than 20 tourists can lease a boat for VND800,000 (US$50) while a smaller group can rent a boat for VND550,000 ($34.40).

The sea at Vinh Hy Bay is calm and tourists can visit it all year round. In summer, the islets of Tay Sa, Tai, Phu, Bo Bo, and Yen Cape can all be visited.

The boats move slowly, and tourists can get a good look at both the aquatic and human life of the area.

Many locals fish during the day, or herd goats on shore. The best coral is at Tai Islet and Tay Sa, where soft and brightly colored coral is abundant.

Ba Dien and Phu beaches are the best places for swimming. At these two desolate beaches, tourists can bathe nude or go coral diving.

But fishing is Vinh Hy’s most popular activity. Fishermen generally let their lines out of the boat and move slowly looking for bites. Dipping a freshly-grilled catch into Ninh Thuan fish sauce while drinking the area’s local rice-brew is a great way to relax aboard the boat or back on shore.

Vinh Hy Bay tours are provided by Saigon-Ninh Chu Hotel, a four-star hotel in Ninh Hai District’s Khanh Hai Commune.

The Tay Sa-Bo Bo journey is best during the southwestern winds while the Tay Sa-Tai Islet voyage is better with northeastern winds.
